**IMPORTANT: This is a public showcase for projects entered in the TeenTech GLOBAL Civic Hackathon and World Pitch. Only projects submitted by email to teentechsf@gmail.com will be accepted for judging. Please read the full guidelines before submitting.**

The TeenTech GLOBAL Civic Hackathon is a multi-site event, with hackathons being held across the globe in cities such as Seattle, San Francisco, New York, London, and Paris. Three winning teams from each local hackathon, as well as the winners of the GLOBAL Wild Card section, advance to the TeenTech World Pitch Finals.

TIMING

  • NOVEMBER 9: Submission deadline for GLOBAL Wild Card Entries
  • NOVEMBER 16: GLOBAL Wild Card Finalists announced
  • NOVEMBER 23: Submission deadline for community-wide Civic Hackathon finalists and GLOBAL Wild Card finalists
  • DECEMBER 1: Deadline to post projects on Devpost. All teams may do this.
  • DECEMBER 5: Civic Hackathon World Pitch Finals livestreaming from SalesForce HQ!

 

About TeenTechSF:

Since launching, we have connected 1400+ teens on 5 continents with more than 100 mentors from Apple to Zynga, including speakers and workshops on app development, coding, design thinking, civic entrepreneurship, game creation, global tech trends, professional networking, STEAM, social media, and venture funding.

Eligibility

Hackathon teams are made up of 2-5 students who must be 13-18 yrs old. Each student must register individually.

Requirements

  • Develop a tech solution to a civic problem and a 3 minute pitch. You will have a maximum of 48 continuous hours (must be continuous, you cannot work 6 hours for 8 days).
  • Projects can take any form: coding project, app creation, Arduino project, website, Maker prototype, 3-D printer project...)
  • Project must be original and new. Previously developed projects cannot be submitted.

How to enter

To enter, ethier attend one of many local qualifier hackathons, or enter online as a wild card.

Anyone, anywhere can enter the GLOBAL Wild Card category. Projects and pitch video must be submitted for judging by NOVEMBER 9. Finalists in the GLOBAL Wild Card category will be notified by NOVEMBER 16 and will have a maximum of an additional 48 continuous hours to polish their presentation and develop a 3 minute pitch video. Finalists must submit their projects by NOVEMBER 23 for the TeenTech GLOBAL Civic Hackathon World Pitch Finals livestreaming from Salesforce HQ!

Judging Criteria

  • Direction
    How well does the project address the chosen prompt?
  • Impact
    How impactful would this project be? (It could impact a large number of people in a basic way or a small number of people in a more profound way. Both are equally valuable.)
  • Significance
    How well does the pitch make its issue/solution seem important? (Especially if it addresses an issue of its choosing)
  • Technological Creativity
    How innovative and creative is the solution?
  • Efficiency
    How well does the project make use of the chosen technology? (Could there have been a more efficient way to do the same thing?)
  • Functionality
    How technically sound is this project? Does it actually work? How likely is it to break?
  • Business Practicality
    Is this project practical from a business/investment standpoint?
  • Demand/Scalability
    Would there be demand for this project? Is it scalable?
  • Originality
    Is this project unique? Will it stand out from the competition?
  • Persuasiveness
    Is the pitch compelling and persuasive? How convincing was it? How confident were the presenters?
  • Explanation
    How well is the project explained? Did you leave the pitch understanding how it would work, or do you still have questions?
  • Organization
    Is the presentation timely and well-organized? Do they stick to the point or ramble? Does it make good use of the 3-minute limit?
  • Extra Points
    Was there something that doesn’t fit into one of the above categories that deserves rewarding?
